ICTP Announces 2026 Dirac Medal Recipients

ICTP has awarded its 2026 Dirac Medal to four physicists "for their pioneering contributions to equilibrium statistical mechanics and for extending its concepts and methods into non-equilibrium statistical mechanics, optimization problems, theoretical neuroscience, and, finally, artificial intelligence". Graduation Day for ICTP Diploma Students

It has been described by alumni as an open door to a world of scientific opportunities, an unforgettable stop in an academic journey, and a starting point for life-long friendships. ICTP's Postgraduate Diploma Programme was all of that and more to the 42 students who graduated on 26 August, completing an intense year of physics and mathematics studies that has prepared them to further their careers as masters or doctoral students or as faculty in their home countries. 2026 Shafi Prize Honours Top Diploma Student

Since 2023, Diploma students who have distinguished themselves for their academic excellence in the programme have been awarded a special prize established by Qaisar and Monika Shafi, long-time friends and supporters of ICTP, to recognize and encourage the next generation of young scientists. International Mathematics Master Students Visit ICTP for Summer Internships

The ICTP-supported International Mathematics Master Programme brings some of its best students in Algeria and Pakistan on an extended, fully immersive experience in mathematics during the summer at ICTP. Here, the students take mini-courses with advanced research talks on different areas of mathematics, interspersed with soft-skill enhancing and career mentorship activities. Read more ...

ICTP Global Science Portal Reaches Out to Former Visitors

The ICTP Global Science Portal online platform for our global scientific community has over 8500 users, and is now expanding to include all attendees of ICTP activities. Participants and speakers at ICTP workshops, conferences and schools, both at ICTP and remotely, and all past or present affiliates, visitors, students, postdocs, faculty and associates are welcome to join the Portal. In Memoriam: Daniele Amati

ICTP is mourning the passing of Daniele Amati, a former director of SISSA and longtime collaborator with ICTP who played an important role in the birth of the Centre. In June 1960 he participated in the Symposium on Elementary Particle Interactions held at the Miramare Castelletto where Abdus Salam and Paolo Budinich concocted the plan to create ICTP.
