2024 ICTP Prize AnnouncedICTP has awarded its 2024 ICTP Prize to two researchers who, although in different fields, exhibit notable creativity in their work: Ranjan Laha, an assistant professor at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India, has received the prize for his outstanding and wide-ranging work in theoretical particle astrophysics and cosmology; and Enzo Tagliazucchi, professor of computational neuroscience at the University of Buenos Aires and principal researcher at the Latin American Brain Institute at Santiago, Chile, for his significant insights in human cognition and consciousness based on general theoretical principles, validated on empirical data from neural recordings according to the established standards of cognitive neuroscience. Graduation Ceremony, Master in Medical PhysicsThe Master of Advanced Studies in Medical Physics (MMP) programme, run jointly by ICTP and the University of Trieste, held a graduation ceremony for 17 students who have completed the two-year degree programme. The year 2024 also marked the 10th anniversary of the MMP, which has opened the way to a successful career path for nearly 200 physicists from 72 countries spanning 5 different continents. ICTP in Vietnam: Hanoi Event Celebrates ICTP-Vietnamese CollaborationSoon after its main 60th anniversary celebration on 15 November in Trieste, ICTP extended the festivities to its network of physicists and mathematicians in Vietnam. There, at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology's Institute of Mathematics in Hanoi, a two-day event titled ' ICTP and Vietnamese Science: Celebrating 60 Years of Collaborations and Building the Future' showcased the profound impact that ICTP has had on the development of physics and mathematics in Vietnam. ICTP and IAEA: Empowering Global CollaborationICTP honoured its longstanding collaboration with its UN partner, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), with a side event to the Agency's Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications and the Technical Cooperation. Hands-on Quantitative Life Sciences: ICTP School in Cuba Exposes Young Scientists to Interdisciplinary ApproachICTP has been celebrating its 60th anniversary this year with scientific conferences, international symposia, schools and public science talks that have been taking place throughout the year, and across four different continents. One such anniversary event took place in early November, when ICTP’s Quantitative Life Science section organised a Hands-On Quantitative Biology School in Havana, Cuba, in collaboration with the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and the University of Havana, where the school took place.Read more ... | |
Ramanujan Prize 2024 Ceremony Celebrates MathematicsThe 2024 ICTP-IMU Ramanujan Prize Ceremony, honouring mathematician Ruochuan Liu, took place at ICTP on 9 December. Liu received the award "for his fundamental contributions to p-adic Hodge theory, especially his foundational study of relative p-adic Hodge theory and his remarkable work on rigidity and the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence for p-adic local systems".
