ICTP and the University of Trieste Launch the World's First University Degree in Radiation Metrology

Accurate measurements are the basis of every effective diagnosis and safe treatment. To ensure that this fundamental requirement for patient safety is met the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste and the University of Trieste have launched the world's first Master's degree in Radiation Metrology. This new two-year course, which began on 26 January, is part of the Master's Degree in Advanced Studies in Medical Physics and is co-funded by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Global Climate Excellence: 57 Early-Career Scientists Join the IPCC AR7 Effort

The next generation of climate leaders is taking the stage. ICTP and the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) are proud to welcome 57 early-career scientists from developing countries and countries with economies in transition (DC/EITs) as Chapter Scientists for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Seventh Assessment Report (AR7), thanks to generous support from Wellcome. ICTP Director Atish Dabholkar on India Lecture Tour

Between February and March 2026 ICTP Director Atish Dabholkar will travel to India and take part in a series of events at different science institutes across the country. The trip will be an occasion to strengthen the ties between ICTP and the Indian scientific community and to highlight ICTP’s mission and Abdus Salam’s legacy on the year of his centennial. Several events will take place in different cities, from Pune to Bengaluru, and from New Delhi to Mumbai. Read more ...


ICTP Participates in IYQ Closing Ceremony

The International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ), celebrated in 2025, officially came to an end on 10 and 11 February 2026 through a closing ceremony in Accra, Ghana. ICTP Senior Research Scientist Rosario Fazio, who co-chaired the IYQ steering committee, represented ICTP at the event, which marked the end of a successful year of scientific and cultural events across the world and prompted reflection on how to ensure that the legacy of the IYQ will endure. ICTP Associate Imrana Ashraf receives 2026 Esther Hoffman Beller Medal

ICTP Institute Associate Imrana Ashraf of Quaid-I-Azam University, Pakistan, has been awarded the 2026 Esther Hoffman Beller Medal by Optica, a society dedicated to promoting research and worldwide knowledge dissemination in optics and photonics. The prize citation reads “for her dedication to optics education at her university and at events targeting students from economically developing countries, as well as for the organization of numerous educational and outreach events in rural areas of Pakistan.” Read more ...


ICTP’s Eastern European Science Alliance in Action

In 2025, two major scientific gatherings in Southeastern Europe—the 14th Regional Meeting on String Theory in Crete and the SEENET-MTP Workshop and Assessment Meeting (BWAM25) in Bucharest—demonstrated the vitality of theoretical physics across the Balkans and Eastern Europe. These activities, supported by ICTP and generously enabled by Michael and Nina Douglas, exemplify the vision behind ICTP’s proposed Eastern European Science Alliance (EESA). Read more ...


ICTP Global Science Portal survey results are in!

The ICTP Global Science Portal is run in-house at ICTP for our scientific community. One of the advantages of this is that we can not only ask users what they want from the Portal, but we can act on this information to develop a useful space for support and collaboration. In a recent small survey, respondents stated that funding/fellowship calls and networking events are of particular interest to them. With this in mind, we will add more opportunities and developing a series of networking events for users. Read more ...
