![]() A Celebration of Women and Girls in ScienceOn the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, held annually on 11 February, ICTP and the Trieste Section of the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) organised a public event based on the play "The Hidden Force". The play highlights the contributions of women to fundamental physics through the poetic storytelling of the life and work of four significant but only partly recognized scientists of the 20th century: the American astronomer Vera Rubin, the Austrian nuclear physicist Marietta Blau, the Chinese particle physicist Chien-Shiung Wu, and the Italian physicist Milla Baldo Ceolin. ![]() ICTP-Italian Partnership Nurtures Mathematics in Developing CountriesMathematicians need little equipment – a blackboard and some chalk or alternatively a pencil and some paper -- to do their job. Good collaborators and some uninterrupted, quiet time, away from administrative tasks and frequent emails are also essential. The partnership that ICTP and the Italian National Institute of High Mathematics (INdAM) started ten years ago aims precisely at fostering new collaborations by providing mathematicians working in developing countries and INdAM members with the working conditions they need to exchange ideas and work on new projects together.
