ICTP Celebrates the 2025 Dirac Medallists

ICTP honoured the four scientists who received its prestigious 2025 Dirac Medal at a ceremony at ICTP. The awardees are: Gary Gibbons of Cambridge University, UK, Gary Horowitz of the University of California Santa Barbara, USA, Roy Kerr of the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and Robert Wald of the University of Chicago, USA. Inspiring the Youth of Latin America

ICTP emeritus mathematician Fernando Rodriguez Villegas believes that it is never too early to be introduced to rigorous scientific training. With ICTP's mission of developing science in the global South in mind, he created Inspira, a math summer camp dedicated to high school students in South America and aiming to bring them closer to mathematics. The first edition of the programme took place at the end of 2025 in Uruguay. “If something like this had existed when I was that age, I would have gone immediately,” Villegas says. Read more ...

This month we present ICTP-Arab Fund Associate Hand Zenia and his student Sarah Louifi from Algeria. How ICTP Assists Scientists at Risk

Over the years, ICTP has served not only as a lighthouse for global science but also as a safe harbour for hundreds of scientists and students displaced by conflict. Until now, ICTP's approach to dealing with these emergencies has been mostly reactionary and ad hoc, scrambling to pull together limited budgetary resources.
With growing geopolitical tensions and increased global conflicts, ICTP recognizes the urgent need for a dedicated emergency fund to assist students and scientists forced to seek refuge due to dangerous situations. Read more ...
