The Future of Scientific Computing Highlighted at ICTP SymposiumAs part of its 60th anniversary celebrations, ICTP held an international symposium on “The Future of Scientific Computing: a Global Perspective”, bringing together leading scientists and technology experts from around the world to discuss the frontiers of scientific computing. Key topics included the opportunities offered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum and high-performance computing (HPC) in tackling key scientific challenges in a global perspective. ICTP Launches Scientific Computing InitiativeICTP has announced a new initiative to promote open access to scientific computing resources and the education and training needed to take full advantage of their capabilities. The International Consortium for Scientific Computing (ICOMP) will provide scientists from around the world with an integrated platform to exchange information, access resources, receive training, and contribute to the advancement of the rapidly evolving and expanding research field of computational sciences. Trieste Public Lecture by ICTP Scientific Council Member Lisa RandallHarvard theoretical physicist and member of the ICTP Scientific Council Lisa Randall took advantage of her time in Trieste for the Council meeting to give a standing-room-only public lecture. The talk, which took place as part of Trieste's Scienza e Virgola science and literature festival, was titled "Knocking on Heaven's Door" after one of Randall's most famous popular science books.
