The Future of Scientific Computing Highlighted at ICTP Symposium

As part of its 60th anniversary celebrations, ICTP held an international symposium on “The Future of Scientific Computing: a Global Perspective”, bringing together leading scientists and technology experts from around the world to discuss the frontiers of scientific computing. Key topics included the opportunities offered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum and high-performance computing (HPC) in tackling key scientific challenges in a global perspective. Special emphasis was placed on the need for an inclusive approach that is able to address the needs of scientific communities working in the less developed regions of the world. Read more ...


ICTP Launches Scientific Computing Initiative

ICTP has announced a new initiative to promote open access to scientific computing resources and the education and training needed to take full advantage of their capabilities. The International Consortium for Scientific Computing (ICOMP) will provide scientists from around the world with an integrated platform to exchange information, access resources, receive training, and contribute to the advancement of the rapidly evolving and expanding research field of computational sciences. Trieste Public Lecture by ICTP Scientific Council Member Lisa Randall

Harvard theoretical physicist and member of the ICTP Scientific Council Lisa Randall took advantage of her time in Trieste for the Council meeting to give a standing-room-only public lecture. The talk, which took place as part of Trieste's Scienza e Virgola science and literature festival, was titled "Knocking on Heaven's Door" after one of Randall's most famous popular science books. ICTP Announces New Prize for Artificial Intelligence Research

Ongoing progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI) holds the potential to transform science and help humanity solve complex global challenges. Recognizing the impact that research in AI is going to have on science and society at large, ICTP has launched a new prize for researchers in AI – the AI for Science Prize, aimed at acknowledging major contributions in this field. The fifth episode of ICTP's "Science is Our Common Language" video series on its Associates is dedicated to Simons Associate Flávio Barbosa Justino, a climatologist and a professor at the Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil.
