ICTP announces a new, five-year strategic plan

ICTP Director Atish Dabholkar has unveiled an ambitious strategic plan for the Centre, mapping out strategic priorities for the next five years and beyond. "ICTP's vision for the future must respond to new opportunities and realities of the 21st century while keeping true to the foundational inspiration that we share with the ICTP's founders Abdus Salam and Paolo Budinich," said Dabholkar. A Catalyst for Discoveries: Interview with Michele Parrinello

Michele Parrinello, the father of many methods that have paved the way to understanding some of matter’s deepest secrets, has just turned 80. A few days after his birthday, he was at ICTP—of whose community he is a cherished member—to attend the conference “Frontiers in Atomistic Simulations: From Physics to Chemistry and Biology,” surrounded by a large community of researchers, many of whom have been his collaborators. Meet Carolina Araujo, ICTP's New Ramanujan International Chair

Carolina Araujo, a professor at the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is the new holder of ICTP's Ramanujan International Chair. Araujo was a Simons Associate between 2015 and 2019, and was awarded the 2020 DST-ICTP-IMU Ramanujan Prize. ICTP Welcomes Delegation from India

Science, technology and future alliances were the topics of discussion during a visit to ICTP on 4 September by a high-level delegation from India led by Abhay Karandikar, Secretary of that country's Department of Science and Technology (DST). ICTP has had strong connections with the Indian scientific community over the past six decades. Almost 15,000 scientists from India, from early-career researchers to some of the leaders in the field, have visited ICTP for extended periods for collaborations. Read more ...


Medical Physics in the Global South: An Interview with Nada Abbas Ahmed

Doing science in disadvantaged countries that lack infrastructure and resources can be discouraging for researchers. That is why Abdus Salam founded ICTP: to help scientists from developing regions overcome lack of opportunities and isolation. A recent example is Sudanese physicist Nada Abbas Ahmed, an assistant professor in medical physics at Taibah University, in Saudi Arabia, who has benefitted from ICTP's Associate's programme by forming new collaborations and sharpening her skills.
