ICTP Impact in Senegal Highlighted in New Video

Over the years, ICTP has bridged this divide for more than 180,000 scientists from 188 countries. Senegal is one such country; recent events at ICTP have spotlighted the profound impact of the Centre on science and mathematics in the African country. With this in mind, a new video highlights the impact ICTP has had on mathematics research in Senegal. Mary-Jane Sule: Breaking Barriers in Science

Mary-Jane Sule, from Nigeria, firmly believes that everyone should be empowered to choose their life's path without limitations imposed by their country of origin or lack of exposure to certain subjects. As an ICTP postdoc in the field of computing and IT services, she is working on the deployment of scientific cloud computing resources, ensuring that scientists and participants who are connecting remotely to ICTP activities can fully benefit from their experience. Future Generations of Scientists

Abdus Salam's legacy lives on thanks in part to people who knew or worked side by side with him during his years as a professor, including Qaisar Shafi, a Pakistani-American theoretical physicist who was a doctoral student of Salam's in London. Recently Shafi, together with his wife Monika, showed their appreciation of Salam's vision by establishing a prize in their names for the best ICTP Diploma student of the year. Daniel Madulu Shadrack: Enriching Science in Africa

Daniel Madulu Shadrack, an ICTP alumnus from Tanzania, has had an educational journey that breaks down the traditional boundaries of academic disciplines. Trained as a chemist, Shadrack harbored a passion for computational studies and drug design. In Africa, there was no possibility to delve into this scientific realm. A chance encounter with an ICTP physicist opened up a path that led to the education Daniel needed to pursue his dream career. Back in his home country, he has launched a biotech startup. Neutrinos, Theory, and Women in Physics

ICTP Simons Associate Yasaman Farzan is a role model for women pursuing a career in physics. The Iranian neutrino physicist obtained her PhD in 2004 from SISSA, worked in the theory group at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, and is the first woman to be appointed as the Head of Physics at the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM) in Tehran. Farzan talked to ICTP about her neutrino research and being a female physicist in Iran. Read more ...

Call for Applications: HECAP Short-term Visits

The ICTP High Energy, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics (HECAP) section offers a number of grants for short-term visits. The purpose of the visits is to perform theoretical studies in HECAP's areas of expertise and in close interaction with the section's resident staff and visiting scientists. ICTP's Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics (CMSP) section seeks applicants for its “Ludwig Boltzmann” Senior Postdoctoral Fellowship starting Fall 2024 from outstanding young scientists of any nationality with a strong research record; women are particularly encouraged to apply.
